MEET GENERAL MANAGER DAVID MONTELPARE
David Montelpare is a lifelong coach and youth mentor with more than 15 years of experience developing young athletes. An Oakville native, David first discovered his passion for coaching as a high school student with the Minor Oaks Hockey Association, where that early experience laid the foundation for a long and dedicated career in youth sports leadership.
After graduating from McMaster University with a B. Eng in Material Science & Engineering, David transitioned into competitive coaching in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), where he spent eight years as a Head Coach with North Toronto. He led teams from U12 to U16 in both A and AA divisions, earning tournament wins and playoff success while fostering a strong team culture built on discipline, accountability, and personal growth. His coaching style blends structured development plans, personalized goal setting, and positive relationships to teach technical skills and game IQ. Outside the GTHL, David has also served as a Lead Instructor at Hockey Opportunity Camp and Edge Power Skating, specializing in skating mechanics and skill development.
In 2023, David joined TOP Sports as a Head Coach in TOP Hockey and quickly became a key contributor to the organization’s growth. He now serves as the General Manager of TOP Sports Oakville, where he leads program development, staff management, and long-term planning across all sports. Prior to joining TOP Sports full-time, David spent 11 years at Canadian Tire Corp. (CTC) as a Project Manager, overseeing large-scale infrastructure and cross-functional operations including distribution centres, logistics, analytics, transportation, reporting, and more.

Kevin Shier
Executive Director & Co-Founder
As the Executive Director of TOP Sports, Kevin’s dedication to leading the organization forward is rooted in his passion for creating a more well-balanced youth sports model. Kevin is a highly motivated leader who oversees the business side of the organization, including partnerships, facilities, finance, marketing, human resources, and expansion. Kevin played NCAA Div. 1 University Hockey at Union College and worked briefly in sports marketing at Sportsnet and TSN.
Ian Mackenzie
Technical Director, TOP Hockey & Co-Founder
Ian has served as the Technical Director of TOP Hockey since 2019 and has quickly established himself as one of the premier minor hockey directors in Toronto. Ian’s unparalleled knowledge of the game provides our players, coaches, and parents with an excellent resource throughout their minor hockey journey. Ian was a very accomplished multi-athlete playing competitive hockey and provincial level volleyball, and holds a Bachelors of Business and Communication from Wilfred Laurier University.
Luke Earl
Strategic Advisor & Co-Founder
Luke has served as a volunteer advisor of TOP Sports since its founding and has played a crucial role in its growth and expansion to date. A native of Simsbury, CT, Luke played NCAA Div. 1 University hockey at Yale University where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, Luke played three seasons of professional hockey in the southern United States and Germany.

Tom Waud
Technical Director, TOP Soccer
Tom is a native of London, England where he graduated from the University of Worcester with a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Sport and Exercise Science. Tom currently holds a Children's License and Youth License from Canada Soccer, as well as his Canada 'C' Coaching License, FA Level Two, and a certified NCCP Coach Evaluator. Tom has a 10+ years of high-school teaching experience in England, and worked previously at North Toronto Soccer Club.
Bennett Drake
Technical Director, TOP Lacrosse
Bennett has been the Technical Director of TOP Lacrosse since 2023 after a lengthy playing career at the University of Albany Division 1 lacrosse team, where he led the team to 4x NCAA tournament appearances, 3x ‘Elite 8’ appearances, and 3x America East Championships. Bennett also currently serves as the Director of Scouting, Video Coordinator, and U.S. Scout for the Ottawa Black Bears in the National Lacrosse League, and holds coaching certifications through the National Coaching Certification Program and Hockey Canada.
Maribeth De Leon
Marketing & Operations Coordinator
Maribeth joined the TOP Sports team in 2023 after graduating from the Humber College Sport Management program. Maribeth’s primary focus at TOP Sports is on operations, human resources, and marketing, ensuring our parents, coaches, and players have the best experience possible while at our club.
Amber Jo Stevenson
Grassroots Program Coordinator
Amber oversees our year-round sports camps and recreational programs and is the epitome of what rec sports should be all about! Her infectious energy, positivity, and passion set the tone each day! Amber is an avid athlete and brings over a decade’s worth of youth sports coaching experience to help our young athletes learn and grow.
In addition to her role as Assistant Director of TOP Sports Camps, Amber also serves as Grassroots Program Coordinator, overseeing the TOP Soccer and TOP Hockey recreation programs.
Brendan Mori
Program Manager, TOP Hockey
As passionate as he is skilled, Brendan brings nearly a decade of experience coaching minor hockey, running hockey camps, and developing on-ice skills. In his role as Program Manager, TOP Hockey, he oversees our hockey teams and recreational programs, and works closely with our coaching staff to ensure our high standards and skill development curriculum are consistently implemented. Brendan plays a key role in shaping the hockey experience, mentoring coaches, and working directly with parents.

Tevi Mandel
General Manager, TOP York Region
Tevi joined TOP Sports in 2022 as a Program Manager and was named General Manager of TOP Sports York Region in 2024. He has extensive coaching experience with CanPro Hockey, North Toronto Hockey, Camp Manitou, and TOP Hockey, and worked at Right to Play in People and Culture.
Dave Montelpare
General Manager, TOP Oakville
Dave joined TOP Sports in 2021 and has coached in the TOP Hockey program for three seasons. In 2024 he spearheaded our Oakville expansion and became General Manager. He has over 10 years of GTHL coaching experience and spent 12 years with Canadian Tire Corporation.
Chris Ordanis
General Manager, TOP Whitby
Chris brings 25+ years of teaching and coaching experience in Durham, leading school athletics and youth programs across hockey and soccer. A Whitby resident, Chris is deeply involved in the local sports community and is known for building positive, high-energy training environments.
